From the Mind of a Two Year Old

David has become quite the communicator this past month! He's learning new words every day. I've been meaning to write down some of the cute things he says, and the conclusions he comes to by watching other people interact. Here are some of his recent conversations...

Overheard from David's room: "Five, six, shhhh, boo!"
Interpretation: David has covered the eyes of his stuffed animals with his hands, is counting down (yes, "five, six" is down for him), telling his toys to be quiet, then saying "boo" to them!

David has recently gotten attached to the three Toy Story movies. He's seen the toys come to life when the humans leave the room, then the toys drop to the floor to resume their position when they hear the humans approaching again. All this to say...when David is playing in his room, he drops to the floor when he hears us coming down the hall. He's seen the toys in the movies do it, so he has concluded that that's the norm!!

David is very routine-oriented. He reminds us if we've forgotten a small detail or have done something out of order. Sometimes it can be annoying, but we are so excited to see him learn and remember what needs to be done. We usually pray with him before naps and bedtime, and now he holds his hands out and asks us to "pay" which is his way of saying "pray." We are so blessed to see his desire to pray. It's a reminder to us that God asks us to come to Him like little children.

Our friends the Trombley's just had a baby boy last week! As I was setting aside some baby items for them, David was curious about who they were for. I told him that they were for baby Joshua, and ever since then he's asked for "Josh" or "Jaw-Jaw." He hasn't even met him yet, but talks to "Jaw-Jaw" on his toy cell phone.

David had been saying "wah-wah" for "water" for several months. And sometimes he would even say "agua" not knowing he was saying it in Spanish! Recently when he learned to say "wash" for washing his hands, dishes, clothes, etc., he then replaced the word "water" with wash. So now anytime he wants a drink, sees waterfalls, puddles, etc., he says "wash." He doesn't understand the different contexts yet, but sure brings a smile to our face with his reasoning!

I love seeing new things through David's eyes. He's full of wonder and imagination! I've enjoyed this new level of "play" where he makes a "roar" sound when he sees dinosaurs, and "vroom" sounds when he sees a truck. The adventures are endless!
