He is growing up so quickly, and is no longer a baby. He's becoming very independent and wanting to do everything himself. He's learned to dress himself, put his shoes on, make his bed, brush his teeth, open the car door and buckle his car seat, and feed himself with a fork or spoon. He's learned alot of other things, but these are some of the ones that make me realize how fast he has become a big boy.
He's definitely determined and does not like to hear the word "no." When he is tired, hungry, or determined to continue playing....the word "no" can set him off like nothing else. He does respond to correction and discipline well, and can articulate what he's sorry about afterwards. He really does have a teachable heart and thrives when he has boundaries.
David loves his little brother. He is very protective of James and keeps me informed of whatever James is doing. When we are driving, he tells me when James looks out the window, takes a nap, burps, or cries. David always informs me whenever "James make a mess." He's very observant and can communicate just about anything!
David is quite the talker! He can form a 6-7 word sentence that makes sense to other people. He's great at communicating and understanding the reasoning behind things we do. His interpretation of some things are rather entertaining to us, and we find ourselves laughing a lot!
Here are some recent interactions...
David: Hey Raaache
Me: No, David. You need to call me Mommy.
David: Sure, babe.
Me: No, David. You need to call me Mommy.
David: Okay, sure.
For the first time this week, David took James's hands before bed, closed his own eyes, and started to pray for the first time. He said, "Dear God, help James feel better amen." James was not at all sick, but David has heard us pray that prayer before. David has prayed more since then and said a similar prayer, but adds extra words to it such as "Nana's house" or "hot dog."
One of David's favorite movies is Disney/Pixar's film "Up!" The main character in the movie is the old man Carl, but David thinks his name is "Up." When Carl goes to sleep at night, David says "Up take a nap." He doesn't understand :) But on the other hand, he does!
David has entered a new realm of "play." He uses his imagination alot more and makes sounds to go along with whatever toy he is playing with. He's really into cars, construction equipment, animals, and airplanes. He's all over the place and does not like to sit still!! He's ALL boy :)
This summer we signed David up for swim lessons. We've taken about 6 lessons and David LOVES the water...he's really taken well to it. The lessons are more about introducing young kids to the water instead of actually teaching him how to swim. I didn't realize that ahead of time, but am thankful that David is so fond of the water and has no fears whatsoever. Well, actually it would be good for him to have a tad bit of fear...just so he's cautious around the pool :)
David is a blessing to us! I absolutely love my boys and all the adventures that they bring into my life. More to come soon...
