Block Party

Shaun and I moved into our house a little over 4 years ago. Up until a few months ago, we barely knew the neighbors next door. We have many friends who have gotten to know their neighbors, and we decided that we wanted to do the same!

Sooooo....after 3 months of planning (that included asking 40 neighbors for signatures, filling out city permits, requesting the city of SA to block a portion of our street, and then the "fun" planning)....we were proud to announce that we were hosting a block party for our street.

Everything came together nicely! The one detail that was hard to overlook was the HEAT. Who knew that when we chose the date 3 months ago that we had chosen one of the HOTTEST days of the year. It turned out to be a near record breaking high of 111 degrees. Hot diggity dog!!!

The music, food, and company made the heat more bearable though! We had a blast! And we were honestly surprised that 12 of the 40 families on our street came out and braved the heat. Hopefully this can become a tradition...but we will not do it at the end of August!!

We had no idea that our front yard could accommodate so many tables, chairs, and people!

It was definitely a good idea to block the street so that we didn't have to worry about traffic!

For the kids, the hilight of the afternoon was the moonwalk! David played so much, but we had to bring him inside periodically and bathe him so that he wouldn't get overheated. My mom came over and stayed inside with James. There was no way the little guy could have endured the heat.

Fun times had by all!
