A Night On the Town

This past week has been rather busy for Shaun. He worked the evening shift at work and also took his finals for school! I am so proud of all his hard work and dedication. Since his birthday was Tuesday, we went out to The Cracker Barrell for breakfast....with the understanding that I had a surprise planned later in the week for his birthday and college graduation.

Since moving to San Antonio almost five years ago, Shaun had yet to visit the Tower of the Americas. I wanted him to view the city from a new perspective and experience the novelty dining experience from 750 feet in the air!

At the base of the Tower, there is a beautiful area with scenic landscape and soothing waterfalls. The sound of the falls drowned out all the noise around and gave a peaceful atmosphere that invited you to stay there for a long time.

We ate dinner at the Chart House seafood restaurant. What was neat about the restaurant was that it turned as we ate. It made a complete circle in one hour, allowing us to see the full view of San Antonio without even leaving our table.

After we finished dinner we went up to the observation deck, but were ready to go back inside since it was VERY windy! I did however manage to get a picture of the Alamodome and of the Tower's shadow. Then we went upstairs to the 601 Bar and relaxed in the comfy leather chairs. There we were able to continue enjoying the view without fighting the strong winds.

And who thought the Alamodome was huge? From the top of the Tower, the Alamodome just looks like a small building!

It was neat to see the Tower's shadow cross several different areas during the 2.5 hours we were up there. And again from the top, Sunset Station also looked like a little building along 281.

Overall, Shaun and I had a fun and enjoyable evening downtown. Thank you Nana for watching David so we could enjoy this special time together!

How fun! Happy Birthday Shaun! And Rachel, I'm pretty impressed that you had the mental energy to plan a night out. I think at that stage I was just planning my next nap. :)
